    Herb's Description

    Trapa bispinosa Roxb.. A very variable, handsome, rooted aquatic herb. Stems long, flexuous, ascending in water. Leaves floating, crowned at the upper parts of stems, appearing as rosettes, rhomboidal, lower surface reddish-purple to green and upper green. Flowers white(140). Fruits green(52), bony, turbinate, 2-4 cm long and broad, 4-angled, 2 opposite angles each with a scabrous spine, 2 other spines sometimes obsolete, indehiscent, 1-seeded, seed white and starchy{140). The dried fruit deprived of husk is dull brown externally and white within. On section it is hard and brittle.
